Austenitic stainless
Nitronic 60 can be used for a wide range of applications. This alloy is a fully austenitic, originally designed to be a temperature alloy. It has excellent high temperature properties at temperatures up to 1800oF. Nitronic 60 has a similar oxidation resistance to Type 309 S.S. and is superior to Type 304S.S. This grade is known for its high wear and galling resistance.
This alloy has a matrix of Silicon and Manganese that inhibits wear, galling and fretting, even when annealed. Cold working can be used to achieve higher strengths. The material is still austenitic even after severe cold-working. The anti-galling property of the material is not enhanced by this cold work, as it would be for some stainless steels or carbon steels. Cold or hot work on the material adds strength and hardness. Wear resistance is not affected. The addition of Chromium and Nickel gives it corrosion resistance comparable to that of 304 and316 stainless steels while having about twice the yield strength. Due to the high mechanical strength of annealed parts, they can be used in lighter weights and thinner stocks.

This alloy is a good choice if your galling occurs below 1500oF. Nitronic 60 offers a greater cost-savings than any other alloy. NITRONIC-60 is hard enough in its annealed state, while other materials need additional heat treatment to increase their hardness. Characteristics
Corrosion Properties
Armco NITRONIC Stainless Steel 60 has a corrosion resistance that is between types 304 and 316. In a wear system however, the experience has shown that a galling failure or siezure occurs first followed by dimensional losses due to wear and then corrosion. The design engineer must first consider wear and galling. NITRONIC 60 offers better corrosion resistance in the laboratory than Type 316. NITRONIC High Strength is not subjected to corrosion tests.
Corrosion Resistance
In most environments, Nitronic 60 has a better uniform corrosion resistance than 304 stainless steel. Nitronic 60 has a yield strength that is almost twice as high as 304 or 316 stainless steels. Nitronic 60 has superior chloride pitting resistance to type 316 stainless steel; it also provides excellent high temperature corrosion resistance and low temperature impact.
Nitronic 60 is used for valve stems, seats and trims, fastening system, screening, pins and bushings, roller bearings and pump shafts. Wear plates, rails guide, and bridge pins are also used.
Wear Resistant
This alloy is a cost-effective way to combat wear and galling in comparison to Nickel or Cobalt alloys.
